Kitchen – Fine-Casual Dining

We cook fresh, local, and seasonal.

Our culinary compass at Matt & Elly is nature. We serve exclusively seasonal creations with a strong focus on local quality products from sustainable producers. Jarin Huber - our head chef and co-owner - has his roots in the Basel countryside, where he grew up with a predominantly vegetarian diet. His mother cooked homemade dishes using the best ingredients the region had to offer. This occasionally included meat or fish from sustainable farming. Matt & Elly's cuisine reflects both Jarin's deep connection to his roots and the influences of different cuisines from around the world that he has encountered on his travels. With his background and our multicultural team of chefs at Matt & Elly, you can enjoy new creative culinary creations every three weeks. To experience our fine dining in a cozy and casual atmosphere, we recommend our monthly changing menu in 4 or 5 courses. Feel free to complete your sensory experience by ordering our in-house beer or wine pairing, both curated by our wine sommelier Roger Grüter and our beer sommelier and co-owner Denise Furter.

FINE-CASUAL DINING

Fine Casual Dining

From Tuesday to Saturday, starting at 6:30 PM, Matt's meticulously composed four or five-course menu awaits you, with vegetarian options or a meat and a fish course. Alternatively, you can freely combine individual creations from both menu lines. For the perfect accompaniment, we recommend our curated pairings: a house beer pairing, our sommelier's curated wine journey, or our non-alcoholic proxy wine pairing.

Starting from 4:30 PM, we serve fine tapas at the bar. Ideal as a delightful start or as an accompaniment to an aperitif before dinner.

WHAT YOU SAY ABOUT MATT & ELLY

Ambience cozy, spacious, modern, inviting. Home-brewed incredibly good beer, which we tasted, gastronomically top, manageable menu with great dishes, ordered food was a concert for the tongue, top cordial care. We will be back.

Wonderful bar to try interesting beers from the brewery's own house brewery. The selection ranges from sour beer to high-proof and extremely tasty bock beer. It is also constantly refreshed with new creations from the master brewers. A place for craft beer lovers and for those destined to enjoy great beers in a friendly atmosphere.

Best Beer in Town (and more)
I can't list all the reasons why you absolutely MUST spend an evening at Matt & Elly, so I'll just list three:
1. the Rock-Away beer (there is nothing better)
2. the crispy duck (was part of the Surpise menu)
3. the cool urban atmosphere (in a not-so-well-known corner of Basel)
Definitely try it out! Thank you very much for your hospitality.
