Thanksgiving is a national holiday celebrated on different days in the USA, Canada, Brazil and – similarly named – also in Germany and Japan. It has long been celebrated as a world holiday, which originally began as a day of giving thanks and sacrifice for the blessing of the harvest and the previous year. The centerpiece of contemporary Harvest Festival in the USA and Canada is a large meal, which generally focuses on a large roasted turkey.
